New Manager Mastery: From Green to Great

Promotion secured. Instructions still missing.

Managing can feel a bit like assembling IKEA furniture without the manual- confusing, frustrating, and a high stakes game of “How much patience do you have?”.

You’ll find yourself playing detective, guessing where each piece goes and hoping it doesn’t turn into a wobbly pile of regret. And unlike IKEA, you can’t just hire a pro to handle it…because you’re now the pro everyone’s counting on.

If you’re newly in charge and the water feels sharky, this course will teach you how to:

  • build a rockstar team without becoming a dictator or doormat

  • handle tricky conversations without earning the “Most Hated Manager” title

  • speak with enough impact so people actually listen

  • think strategically and prioritise without dropping all the plates

Plus we’ll sharpen your judgement so your boss stops hovering.

Seven modules. Two Q&As. And a bonus course, Managing Up: Boss Whispering 101 to transform you from green… to genuinely in control.

Why you need this course:

Woman crossing her fingers symbolising relying on luck in a new leadership role

Because no one really teaches you how to be a manager.

They just give you a title, a team, a calendar full of meetings you don’t remember agreeing to and a vague “you’ll figure it out” while hoping nothing catches fire.

Fact is, most new managers aren’t bad at the job. They’re just doing it for the first time, in public, with consequences.

One awkward conversation avoided, one boundary left fuzzy, one decision kicked down the road, and suddenly you’re managing feelings, expectations and mild chaos instead of the job you thought you signed up for.

New Manager Mastery gives you the tools, judgement and language to handle the moments that actually shape how you’re seen as a manager, before they turn into a reputation you didn’t mean to earn. So you can manage without guessing, over apologising or low key panicking behind your best professionally neutral facial expression.

Because winging it works… right up until it doesn’t.

What You’ll Learn

  • Building a Great Team: The Art of Herding Cats How to hire people you won’t regret, build a team that works well together and keep everyone motivated without resorting to bribery.

  • Difficult Conversations: Saying What Needs to Be Said Handle awkward chats without passive-aggressive emails or hoping the problem will magically disappear. Deliver feedback that lands without your team updating their LinkedIn mid meeting.

  • Setting Boundaries: Keeping Your Sanity Intact Manage expectations like a pro and learn to say “no” without the guilt spiral or the side-eye from Karen in Finance.

  • Speaking for Impact: So People Actually Listen Craft messages that cut through the noise, influence sans waffle and win over even your most sceptical stakeholders.

  • Delegation: Letting Go Without Losing Control Assign work without micromanaging every detail or rebuilding the whole thing at 10pm like it’s a $2M renovation.

  • Time Management: Prioritizing Like a Pro Separate what’s genuinely urgent from what’s just loud and manage your time without defaulting to heroic but unsustainable hours.

  • Strategic Thinking: Seeing the Big Picture Prioritise what really matters, connect your team’s work to bigger goals and stop getting pulled into every passing fire drill.

+ BONUS COURSE: Managing Upwards: Boss Whispering 101 (Worth $699)

Image representing feeling capable and in control in a new manager role

By the end of this course…

You’ll step into your manager role looking calm, credible and significantly less like you’re making it up on the fly.

You’ll:

  • run team conversations without mentally rehearsing them for three days first

  • hold your ground in meetings without over explaining or backpedalling

  • manage up without the awkward energy or second guessing spiral

  • delegate work without hovering, rescuing or rebuilding the whole thing

  • spot what matters when everything suddenly feels important

Your professionally neutral facial expression can stay. The panic can exit stage left.

Meet me, JB

(Otherwise known as Julie Byrne)

I’ve spent the last two decades in the marketing and digital trenches, from scrappy tech startups to global heavyweights like Autonomy, Vodafone, BUPA, Microsoft and ResMed.

I haven’t just talked the talk. I’ve lived the targets, survived death by back to back meetings and sat through more “quick chat?” invites than any human should reasonably be subjected to. (They’re never quick and rarely chats.)

I cut my teeth at Autonomy in the UK, jumping from Marketing Executive to European Marcomms Manager in eight months. Back in Australia, I landed a General Manager gig at Vodafone at 29, then went on to lead digital marketing at BUPA, step into a regional role at Microsoft running Microsoft Stores across APAC and then global with medtech giant ResMed, overseeing their digital ecosystem worldwide.

Since 2018, I’ve been doing my own thing, elbow-deep in coaching, consulting, strategy and transformation work for everyone from big corporates to fast moving small businesses including ENGIE, Craveable Brands and SoundScouts.

In other words, I’ve seen how this game works from just about every angle, including the parts that never make it onto the shiny careers pages. Which also means I’ve seen exactly where smart, capable people start to trip over the stuff nobody ever teaches you.

And after seeing that play out again and again, it became painfully obvious that practical training and real mentorship for new and mid-level managers is weirdly hard to find.

There’s theory aplenty, but not much in the way of here’s what to actually do on Tuesday and without the charisma of a 2009 compliance module.

So that’s the gap I fill. No BS, hands on training and straightforward coaching from someone who’s been in the room, made the calls and can tell you exactly where capable people start to come off the rails.

Free Bonus Course

Managing Upwards: Boss Whispering 101

Because managing your team is only half the job. The other half? Managing the people above you without losing your mind.

Inside this bonus course, you’ll learn how to decode what your boss actually means, keep up when priorities inevitably move (usually around 4:57pm) and communicate in ways that get traction in the rooms that matter.

Because the people above you have a far bigger impact on your career than the people who report to you. Which makes learning how to handle them more important than most people think.
